ABOUT TOY FACTORY
The Toy Factory started from a small shop front in Keilor Road North Essendon in 1980. Kevin Donnelly’s initial idea of selling soft toys at the Victoria Market and other venues like Moomba, the Royal Melbourne Show and outside Moonee Valley on Harness racing meeting nights soon expanded into the supply of gifts to local social clubs. One of his first clients was Ericsson Australia in Broadmeadows who remained a loyal client until the day they closed their doors.
By 1990, the Toy Factory had outgrown the Keilor Road premises and was relocated to the current site in Parer Road Airport West. In 1992, Lee joined the Toy Factory while on family leave from her teaching career and has been working in the business ever since.
Since the inception of the Toy Factory, we have always had great relationships with Social Clubs, but we also have a had a plenty of retailing experience through the series of retail toy shops in shopping centres throughout the Western suburbs of Melbourne.
In 2000, we turned our focus attention back on our core business of supplying social clubs. We started with hand written lists of children’s names, which gave way to faxed lists and now everything is done via email with many of our customers never setting foot into The Toy Factory’s premises.
Over the years we have had many friends and family members join us during our busy Christmas period and last year Wally joined the business allowing Kevin to enjoy a much-deserved semi-retirement, although he will continue to look after the social clubs.
Wally is planning to continue the great relationships with Social Clubs, as well as move back into the Retail market though the new online toy shop on his website, bringing The Toy Factory out of the “dinosaur” age and into the 21st Century.
